Click the link below to open the website containing the VLC Media Player. Then select your operating system from the options listed and choose a location to download the file from.

Once you have saved the installation file to your computer, launch the file to start the installation and follow the few simple steps presented (leaving all defaults will be sufficient).

At the end of the installation, the program should start automatically.

The VLC Media Player interface will look similar to the figure below.

To play the movie you have downloaded:

• click the eject button (), or select File from the main menu and choose Open File...
• a new window will open...click the Browse button
• navigate to the folder where your downloads are stored (refer to the Playing Music section if you need instructions on how to locate your shared folder)
• select the movie file you wish to view
• click the Open button
• click the OK button

The movie will start playing right away...if you do not see the picture, you may need to ensure the window is expanded for better viewing (if necessary, click and drag the bottom-right corner of the window to expand it).

NOTE: If you get an error message and the player will not open the file selected, VLC may not recognize the file format. Click here to download and install a video codec pack (keeping all default options during install will be fine)...then go back to the step above and open the file again.

NOTE:
Many media players on the market will play movie files, however many of the files you will download will have been created (encoded) with a special program such as DivX or Xvid. In order to watch these movies you will require the codec (plug-in) for your media player...the codecs can be downloaded for free, however we feel it is easier to use the VLC Media Player which already has many of the required codecs.
