Parental Controls

Attention Parents, GrandParents and Guardians! The Internet and file-sharing can open a whole new world of education, entertainment and enthusiasm for our youth! Unfortunately this portal can also be used for transmitting adult-oriented content, and sometimes harmful, demeaning and vulgar content.

To help protect your children, and to provide a more enjoyable music downloading experience, we have provided some information and resources for blocking adult content over the file-sharing networks, as well as the Internet in general.

1. Protect your download manager for safe music/movie downloading:

Follow these step-by-step instructions to apply adult filtering to the MP3Rocket search program:

  • Double-click the icon to start the MP3Rocket software (if it is not already running)
  • Select Tools from the main menu at the top of the program
  • Select Options from the menu displayed
  • The Options dialog window will open to the Saving section...click the arrow beside Filters to expand that group and then click on the Keywords option
  • In the Filter Results section you can add specific keywords to ignore by entering in each word and clicking on the Add button...continue adding keywords until you have entered all words you want filtered from the search results (eg. nude, nudity, naked, porn, etc.)
  • In the Filter Result Types section you can place a check mark in the box labeled Ignore Adult Content to add a hi-level filter that will prevent all adult content from being returned in your search results
  • Exit the program (if necessary, remove it from your system tray or dock) and the changes will be applied the next time you start MP3Rocket

4. Educate yourself and your children:

Now that you have identified and cleaned your computer of unwanted material, and added protection to your browser and file-sharing software, you can be sure that your children are safer. The most important thing you can do as a parent to provide complete safety for your child is to educate yourselves and your children on the risks you face each day when you use the Internet.
