Steps to Install Software on Mac or Linux:
Save
the installation file for the search program to
a location on your computer where you will be able to easily locate
it (eg. desktop, applications folder, etc.)
(click here if you are
not on a system)
Launch
the file you downloaded above to start the installation. Here are
some installation tips for various operating systems:
- MAC OS X - double-click LimeWireOSX.dmg
(if you downloaded the installer with the Safari browser, the
DMG should have expanded automatically)
- Mac OS Classic (8.1 or greater) – double-click
LimeWireMac.bin
- Linux - Open
a shell and cd
to the folder where the file was saved. At the prompt type: sh
./LimeWireLinux.bin.

- The install window will open. Click “Next”
to initiate installation.

- You will be asked to choose a folder to install LimeWire.
You may choose the default folder or install in a different
folder.

- LimeWire will ask you if you want to run LimeWire on
system startup.
- We suggest you disable automatic startup by removing the
check mark.

- LimeWire will be installed on your computer, along with
the Java plugin (if necessary)

 |
- Finally remove the check mark from the the box labeled
"Launch LimeWire Now"
and click "Finish".

A
new icon labeled 'LimeWire 4.12' (or similar,
depending on the version you received) will be created on your desktop...double-click
this icon to start the configuration.

- Before you start using LimeWire, you must briefly complete
the steps in The Setup wizard, which will guide you through
the process.

- You will be asked to designate a folder that will contain
the files you would like to share.
- Remember...this will also be the
folder where your downloads will be stored.

- Choose your connection speed. If you do not know your
speed, select Modem if your connection is generally slow,
or Cable/DSL if it is fast. You can change your connection
speed at any time by going to Tools/Options/Speed.

- Choose whether to allow LimeWire to scan your hard drive
for directories you might like shared.
- We suggest you select 'No'.

WARNING! Once you startup
the LimeWire software your personall firewall/security program(s)
may prompt you to permit or deny access to LimeWire and/or
Java.
You MUST ALLOW/PERMIT
access to both of these programs in order to get connected
to the network, and for convenience (if this option is available)
you should choose the option to save this preference for use
each time. |
