Maintaining Personal Privacy and Security
The search programs use a complex network which connects your computer
to millions of other users computers over the Internet. In order
to maintain personal privacy and security (including the prevention
of unauthorized access to files on your computer), we have several
recommendations which we suggest you follow to enjoy a safe and
entertaining downloading experience.
PRIVACY
- Set up your Shared Folder as a
folder on your computer
with no contents (refer to the Playing
Music section for instructions on how to determine the location
of your Shared Folder),
Example: c:\My
Shared Folder\
- After downloading any files to this folder, immediately
move them out of your Shared Folder to your music
library,
Example: \My Documents\My
Music\
- Do not place personal files
you do not wish to share in your Shared Folder,
- Do not leave the file sharing
program running when you are not using it (if
the program is resident in your system tray or dock, exit fully
by clicking the icon with your right mouse button and select Exit),
and
- Follow the instructions to disable file sharing with other users:
SECURITY
- Always ensure you have an active
and current anti-virus program which monitors
and detects viruses in realtime,
NOTE: if you require a virus-detection program,
there are several powerful solutions on the market, including
