Making a Backup Copy of Your Favorite DVD Movies
There
are several ways to make a backup of your favorite DVD movies, however
below you will find instructions for what we feel is the simplest
method.
NOTE: These instructions assume you have already
copied the movie from the DVD to your computer. If you have not
completed this process yet, please refer to the
Ripping DVD instructions first and then return to this page.

Once you have saved the installation file to your computer,
launch the file to start the installation
and follow the few simple steps presented (leaving all defaults
will be sufficient).
At the end of the installation, the
program should start automatically. |
TRANSCODE/SHRINK THE MOVIE
|
|
|
NOTE:
The process that follows is required due to the fact
that most DVD movies are dual-layer (DVD-9 - 8.5Gb), while
you will most likely want to burn to single-layer (DVD-5 -
4.7Gb) DVD discs.
The DVD Shrink interface will look similar to the figure
below.

You will first need to configure the program...select Edit
from the main menu and choose Preferences...setup
the program using the screen shots that follow:

- Click OK
to save and apply the changes
- Click on the Full
Disc icon on the main toolbar
- Click on the Open
Files button from the main toolbar
- Navigate to the location where you
ripped/copied the movie from the DVD and click OK
- The program will quickly scan the DVD as shown below:

- Click the Backup
icon and navigate to where you want the image file created
(you will require at least 4Gb of space for the image file)
- Set the prefences for creating the image file using the
screen shots that follow:

- Click OK
to start the process of creating the image file
- This process may take several hours depending on the speed
of your computer
|
BURN THE MOVIE TO A BLANK DVD
|
|
|
Once the transcoding/shrinking
process in Step 2 is complete, DVD
Decrypter should start automatically (double-click
the icon on your desktop if it does not).

- If the mode and source file have not already been set,
select Mode
from the main menu and choose ISO,
followed by Write
- Click the browse icon (
)
- Navigate to where you created the image file in Step 2
above
- Select the .ISO
file and click Open
- Place a blank DVD disc
(we recommend using DVD-R media) in your DVD burner
- Click the Burn
icon as shown below to start the burning process

The burn process
may only take a few minutes, depending on
the speed of your DVD writer.

You will now
have an exact duplicate of the DVD movie! |
